At least 16 Instagram accounts for official Barnard College resources, offices, and programs announced that they “were no longer being updated.”

This afternoon, accounts representing College offices and initiatives posted the same graphic, which redirected viewers to Barnard’s main Instagram account “for the latest updates across the College.”

“To better serve our community, we’ll be sharing more news, events, and updates from across Barnard through our main @BarnardCollege handle, which has more than 40,000 followers,” a Barnard spokesperson wrote in a statement to The Barnard Bulletin. “We’ll continue to highlight all the great things happening across the College and make it easier for our community to stay connected.”

The spokesperson also highlighted The B Brief, a new weekly newsletter emailed to students that covers various topics at the College, including academic deadlines, upcoming events, and internship opportunities.

The impacted Instagram accounts had been active for years and frequently published content relevant to multiple aspects of campus life, resources, and events at Barnard. Accounts focused on student life include The Barnard Store, Office for Community Engagement and Inclusion, Residential Life and Housing, Student Experience and Engagement, First Year Experience, and Office of Sustainability.

Some also provided information and resources for student well-being, such as the LeFrak Center, Center for Accessibility Resources & Disability Services, Alcohol and Substance Awareness Program, Being Barnard, Health and Wellness, Rosemary Furman Counseling Center, Fitness Program, and Wellness Spot. Other discontinued accounts focused on professional growth and learning, including the Athena Center, Beyond Barnard, Access Barnard, and Barnard Next.

Instagram accounts that did not publicly announce their discontinuation and may remain active include the profiles for Barnard's Dining Services and Primary Care Health Service, as well as the Barnard Center for Research on Women, Empirical Reasoning Center, Skip Stop, Center for Engaged Pedagogy, New Student Orientation Program, Pre-College Programs, and individual academic departments.

Student-run organizations, including the Student Government Association and the Writing and Speaking Fellows, are not among the accounts affected.

Update: This article and its title have been revised to reflect the discontinuation of Barnard’s Wellness Spot Instagram account, the 16th profile to be discontinued.

Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated that The Barnard Store Instagram account did not publish a post announcing its discontinuation. This article has been updated with the link to The Barnard Store's post.
